    WHAT IS TERMINATION PILLS?
The termination pill should not be confused with the morning after pill as it is intended for use within the first 12 weeks of pregnancy whereas the morning after pill should only be used within 3 to 5 days after intercourse. The termination pill, mifepristone and misoprostol, is an approved pregnancy termination method in South Africa and can only be prescribed by a medical doctor..
    HOW DOES TERMINATION PILLS WORK?
Both termination pills, mifepristone and misoprostol, are usually used in order to terminate a pregnancy. Mifepristone causes the embryo to detach from the uterus thereby cutting off essential nutrients and oxygen carried by the blood. Misoprostol is then taken two days later and triggers the evacuation of the embryo remnants through the womb. This often appears as a heavy period.
It is advisable that you consult with your medical practitioner for a further understanding of how the termination pill works.
    IS TERMINATION PILLS SAFE?
The termination pill is usually safer than surgical termination but should only be considered in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. Like any procedure, use of the termination pill can result in complications but if used under the supervision of a medical doctor, the chances of complications are greatly reduced. Your doctor will be best suited to handle any complications should they arise.
DANGERS AND SIDE EFFECTS OF TERMINATION PILLS?
Common side effects include abdominal pain, cramping, bleeding and spotting for up to 2 weeks after using the termination pill. Other side effects that may occur include drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue and fevers. Side effects may not occur in every case and if you are experiencing any symptoms that are persisting, you should consult with your medical doctor immediately
The termination pill may cause a disturbance in your normal menstrual cycle in some users but usually there are no significant dangers associated with using the termination pill However using the termination pill without the supervision of a medical practitioner or after 8 weeks of pregnancy can be dangerous. Uncontrollable bleeding, severe cramping and infections can arise without correct supervision and for this reason, you should never buy or use the termination pill from illegal sources
Always consult with your doctor or a qualified staff at a family planning clinic before you commence with any termination method.TERMINATION CLINIC

We provide safer first trimester and second trimester surgical and non-surgical termination from the very earliest pregnancies up to 24 weeks, in a safe, clean, comfortable, ultra-modern, state-of-the-art private OB/GYN office in Pretoria City. Our gauteng-licensed and board-certified OB/GYN physician is a very experienced expert in OB/GYN ultrasound and first and second trimester termination. The office based surgery facility is managed by Liberty OBS. We have a caring and experienced staff who all strive to foster a safer, positive, and comfortable experience for the patient.
We have had an excellent track record of safety with an extremely low complication rate, compared with other facilities. We take extra steps, that other facilities do not, in order to provide an extra measure of safety for our patients.
Unlike other facilities, we use ultrasound before, during, and after the first and second trimester termination, as well as at the follow-up visit, to ensure the safety of our patients and completeness of the procedure. We have the most current, accurate, state-of-the-art ultrasound machines on-site, including multi-frequency abdominal and vaginal probes, which allow even the very earliest pregnancies to be diagnosed accurately, and not poor quality, obsolete ultrasound machines found at other facilities. Our board-certified OB/GYN physician is an expert at OB/GYN ultrasound, which is very important, since the quality and accuracy of the ultrasound is greatly dependent on both the quality of the equipment and the skill of the person doing the ultrasound.
We use only sterilized surgical instruments and sterile, one-use-only, disposable plastic uterine curettes, unlike some unsanitary “bargain” clinics that reuse these curettes and do not practice safety, cleanliness, and sterility,
For the added convenience of our patients, we provide safer early surgical termination starting from the very earliest that the pregnancy can be seen by ultrasound, in contrast to other facilities that do not perform early termination. A surgical termination can be done safely only if the pregnancy can be definitely seen inside the uterus on careful ultrasound examination. The lower limit of visualization of a pregnancy by ultrasound is 4 weeks, 0 days by menstrual age (approximately 2 weeks after conception or approximately 1 week after implantation of the embryo into the endometrium, the lining of the uterus). Below 4 weeks, a pregnancy cannot be visualized by ultrasound even with multi-frequency vaginal probes (which we use); therefore, a safe surgical termination is not possible below 4 weeks. Please beware of some unethical clinics that falsely claim to do surgical termination at 3 weeks, which is definitely not safe to attempt, since the pregnancy cannot be seen at 3 weeks. If the pregnancy cannot be visualized inside the uterus by vaginal ultrasound, the possibility of an ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy outside the uterus usually in a fallopian tube) must be recognized, and these patients must be followed closely and carefully with serial blood tests to measure the Quantitative beta-HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin or pregnancy hormone) levels and vaginal sonograms. An ectopic pregnancy can be a life-threatening emergency, and patients must be followed promptly and carefully. Ectopic pregnancies are often difficult to detect.
